After speaking with a Virginia Inspector this morning, Zeppy has asked me to post, again, in reference to the Virginia Elevator Mechanic License. The 2018 Code, which references Code A.17.16, "If a Elevator Mechanic does not have a valid Virginia Elevator Mechanics License, he shall not be allowed to work on Elevators in the State of Virginia." If you are caught working without a license you shall be fined. That being said, your company may also be fined. This Code will STRICKLY be enforced and go into effect July 1, 2021. Like the other areas we work in (DC, MD, and WV) your license number will be needed on ALL inspection forms when doing ANY type of inspection. It is highly recommended, by the Union Hall, that if you are a Mechanic and you work in the State of Virginia, you make sure you submit an application for that license as soon as possible. I am more than willing to help anyone, that needs assistance, at the Union Hall. I have the applications here, we can make the color copy of your driver's licese, and get your NEIEP Certificate Statement. All of these are needed to attached with your application. If you need my help, please just call me and let me know that you are coming by so I can get things together, on my end, and take up as little of your time as possible.
Attached below, is a copy of the Articles from DPOR in reference to your license. The Virginia License has been in effect for 10 - 12 years now. Why some, who work in Virginia, did not get it when it went into effect, I don't know, but I do know that they are now going to inforce it, STRICKLY!!!
